Spirulina as an organism has been around for millions of years. It is a type of blue-green algae. It was once a mainstay food of the Aztecs, Mayans, Toltecs, and other ancient cultures. Some believe that Spirulina may have been the "manna from heaven" described in Exodus 16. Spirulina is a great vegan source of protein (60-70% protein by weight) and is chock-full of vitamins and minerals. It also contain the rare fatty acid GLA (essential Omega-6) as well as Omega- 3 fatty acids.
